The Investment Club tools centre around the PORTFOLIO page and the UNIT VALUATION page. In this section will look at how to set up your timetotrade Portfolio page.
You access the Portfolio section by clicking on the PORTFOLIO link on the top navigation bar, this will take you to the Portfolio page.
The first time you go to the Portfolio page will be presented with a default account called "Club Ledger" as illustrated above.
This default account will be your "main" account. Whichever currency the "main" Account is denominated in, defines the base currency for valuing your total overall portfolio. If you have transactions in multiple currencies or overseas accounts, the current exchange rate will be used to value the overseas assets against the base "main" ledger currency. The system is defaulted to set the "main" Account to British Pounds (GBP) when you first log in to timetotrade, but you can change this to whatever currency you prefer. For example, if you are based in the US you can change the base currency to USD.
You can change the name of this default "main" account, and add any number of additional extra accounts. For example, if you have various broker and bank accounts, you might set up a corresponding account for each in your timetotrade portfolio.
The "main" account is also the account to which all your member subscriptions are applied.
Most investment clubs have:
- a bank account into which the members pay monthly subscriptions and from which payments for software etc are paid.
- a broker account, usually separate to the bank account. Member subscriptions are generally then transaferred from the bank account to the broker account from time to time.
If this is the arrangement applicable to your investment club, then you should set the "main" account in your timetotrade portfolio as your bank account.
