To call up Real Time price charts use "GB:" before the usual ticker / EPIC code. For example, for real time prices for Vodafone, use the symbol GB:VOD, for Barclays use GB:BARC

To access the real-time steaming price quotes and stock charts go to the timetotrade Charts Page >>

In the "Retrieve Charts" text box, enter "GB: " followed by the EPIC code for the stock shart you wish to view. For example, Standard Chartered has the epic "STAN", so you would type "GB:STAN" into the retrieve charts box and and either press the "get" button, or alternatively the "return" key on your keyboard.

If you are unsure of the epic code, start inputting the company name into the retrieve charts box. As you start to type the company name or EPIC into the text box, a drop down menu will appear below showing potential stock matches.

In this example, the timetotrade system has identified that I am searching for "Standard Chartered". On the right hand side of the drop down menu you can see the symbol for Standard Chartered is listed as "STAN.L." The EPIC is the "STAN", whilst the ".L" indicates the stock is traded on the London Stock Exchange. If you use "STAN.L" you will be taken to the London Stock Exchange 15 minute delayed price chart.

And if you click on the stock name listed in the drop down menu, this will take you to the delayed chart page with 15 minute delayed data from the London Stock Exchange.

To view the Real Time charts, remove the ".L" suffix and insert "GB:" in front of the EPIC. So in this example, replace "STAN.L" with "GB:STAN". If Real Time data is available the chart will be displayed. If Real Time data is not available on that stock, then the system will display the warning "unknown stock symbol"

Once on the Real-Time chart page for that stock, you can then proceed to create FREE Real Time Alerts for:

Please Note: When creating a Price Alert, consider the Interval that you are using. If for example you select a 1-day Interval, your alert will be based on the end of day close price, and therefore you will not be notified until the market has closed. If you select a 15-minute interval your alert conditions will be checked every 15 minutes; alternatively you select a 1-minute Interval then your alert will be checked every minute during market hours, and you will receive an alert the minute your alert conditions are met.

The FREE real time data is provided by Chi-X, Turquoise and BATS Trading exchanges and is available for UK stocks traded through those exchanges.

CHI-X, Turquoise and BATS are electronic trading platforms using Electronic Communication Network (ECN) computer systems to facilitate trading outside of the main London, New York and NASDAQ stock exchanges. The advances in technology mean that these electronic marketplaces are able to offer lower transaction costs and faster order processing than the traditional exchanges.

The ECN technology is the same technology as powers the world's $3 trillion a day Forex market. Trading in Forex is not done at one central location but is conducted between participants through the ECN networks in various markets around the world.

NB: BATS, Chi-X and Turquoise account for 20% of the volume of all trading of FTSE 100 stocks. The ECN data from Chi-X, Turquoise and BATS does not necessarily represent the best bid or ask in the marketplace and it is possible that a given stock could be trading at a slightly different price somewhere else. That being said, with the advances in technology and algorithmic trading, any discrepancies in price between the main exchanges and the ECN platforms tend to be very short-lived and are likely to be less than trivial for the average investor.
